BJ Mullens - Another One and Done

... and do we care?

Yet another center has come and gone. And still the only one I miss is Greg Oden. Why? Greg had passion for basketball, not for NBA money.

And, Kosta Koufos and BJ Mullens, they share one thing. A passion for the money. OK, two things, I don't and won't miss either.

It was clear through the waning games of the Buckeye regular season that BJ was playing tentative and was not enthused. How many times did he do something so stupid that you wanted to throw your shoes at the TV. Then you'd see Matta yank him, start to school him on the sideline, and you'd see BJ, eyes to the floor or simply walking away while Matta was still talking. He'd checked out.

And we could have used him.

I contend that he has skills ... there were flashes. He certainly has size. He also has hands of stone. He has one posture and won't extend up or down to get a ball that's not right where he wants it on a feed inside. Great. The guards could deal with that. He also won't leave his feet and barely breaks a sweat rolling down the court. Hey, as long as he's there to get the inside pass and score.

But he had no Buckeye passion. He didn't play hard in the minutes leading to the double-OT loss the Bucks suffered at the hands of Siena. He never played like a #1 high school talent for all 20 +/- minutes he was in the game. He never learned defense. I for one won't miss him.

Take your millions BJ. Take care of your family. I sure hope all of your "advisors" really have your best interest in mind, and not theirs. I sure hope in 10-15-20 years you still have some money in the bank. Or we'll see you back down in the "Bottoms" area of C-bus, no better for your 1 year at tOSU and your huge NBA Bucks. Nope.

Let's hope you get more PT than one-and-done Kosta Koufos got in his first year. Oh yeah, he got drafted in the first round. Guess where he's playing now? He got sent down. But yeah, mom's happy. He got a big paycheck.

And I hope you have the maturity to treat your new job just that way. It is a job. No support system. No coach is going to take an interest in you or your family. Nope. No loyalty to you. Good luck in that environment.

And, I won't miss you.
